Book Description
Born in Romania in 1933, Sorel Etrog immigrated to Canada in 1963 and quickly established himself as one of North America's pre-eminentsculptors. With illustrations of works from all the major stages of the artist's career, a text by the distinguished critic Pierre Restany, as well as commentaries by the artist, this monograph is the most comprehensive ever published on Sorel Etrog.

From the Publisher
The volume divides Etrog's work into its major categories: Painted Wood Construction of the 1950's, Links, Screws, Blots, Hinges, Steel Constructions, Rivets and Composites. As well as illustrating the individual aspects of Etrog's peuvre, the monograph contains a list of exhibitions and a full biography. It accompanies an exhibition at Buschlen Mowatt Galleries in Vancouver, Canada, and in Palm Desert, California. In a career spanning 50 years and highlighted by collaborations with artists and writers such as Eugene Ionesco, Samuel Beckett, John Cage, and Marshall McLuhan, Etrog has developed a complex visual vocabulary explorin the tensions of our time. His dynamic sculptures synthesize solid metal and organic energy and resonate with visceral force. Etrog's works are in the collections of the Tate in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, the Kunstmuseum in Basel, the National Gallery of Canada, the Hirschhorn (Smithsonian), and the Musee National d'Art Moderne in Paris, among others. Having worked for many years ion New York, France, and Italy, as well as in his adoptive Canada, Etrog was appointed Member of the Order of Canada in 1994, and was awarded the Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France in 1996.
