Buddha Laughing : A Tricycle Book of Cartoons (Tricycle Book)
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
These eighty-five cartoons provide a hilarious perspective on everything from reincarnation to mindful--or perhaps mindless--ness. Over the centuries, Buddhism has offered the world a clear-eyed, down-to-earth approach to life and death. This irresistible little book of teachings is no exception. It demonstrates that wisdom can--and often should--be taught through humor. Buddha Laughing is a healthy recipe for lightening up, the path to true enlightenment.
From the Publisher
The idea for this book came to me as I lay in the bath, thinking about a cartoon I had just seen in Tricycle Magazine. It showed the Dalai Lama leaning over to talk to a pint-sized young monk whose hand was being held by a character in dark glasses and a floral shirt, clutching a mobile phone. The caption read, "This man says you're the reincarnation of Jimmy Stewart, and you belong in L.A." How wonderful it would be, I thought, to emulate the little books of New Yorker cartoons and find a way for Buddhists to laugh at themselves and others to laugh with them. And this is the result. I'd always wondered why so many statues and drawings of the Buddha showed him chuckling and now I think I know the answer.
