A new character joins the cast of this funny and popular comic book series: a young man named Nozomu Nikaido, who expects to move into a fancy new apartment, but ends up at Maison Ikkoku. He must deal with not only the dilapidated state of the building but also the drunken party animals he now lives with. As for the main characters: A ring makes Coach Mitaka, Kyoko's boyfriend, start to worry. Meanwhile, Godai heads home to think about his future. When he returns to Maison Ikkoku, he begins an ill-fated teaching stint at Kyoko's old high school, which happens to be where she first met her now deceased husband, Mr. Soichiro. --Jim Pascoe
