Fifty Years a Hunter and Trapper
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
More than fifty years of hunting and trapping adventures fill the pages of E. N. Woodcock's autobiography.
"Fifty Years a Hunter and Trapper" begins with Woodcock as a young boy, learning to hunt and trap small game in the wild woods of Pennsylvania. Later he examines the merits of traps versus guns and tells of near escapes and exciting hunting trips to other parts of America. Detailing the hardships that accompany such a life, Woodcock is decidedly forward about his profession. But his voice never wavers in his obvious undying fondness for the outdoors and the adventure that it offers.
About the Author
E. N. Woodcock was born on August 30, 1844, in Lymansville, Potter County, Pennsylvania. Woodcock worked the trap line for more than a half-century and was a faithful contributor to Hunter, Trader, and Trapper magazine for a decade. He also was a noted hunter and trapper in Pennsylvania during the late 1800s and the early 1900s. He designed many animal traps and was known for his ability to trail animals for days on end. In his later years Woodcock became an advocate for more stringent hunting and trapping laws, and he believed conservation was the answer to the declining population of all game animals. In his more than fifty years, Woodcock never hunted illegally or out of season.
