Partially based on actual events, and the rediscovery of a long-forgotten cassette recording, Orff's new book takes place on the coldest night of the year in Buluth, Minnesota (that's pretty cold.). Three guys meet in their first year of college and decide to get together and read each other their poetry. Unexpectedly, one of them invites his new girlfriend - a Russian exchange student who is passionate about poetry - and the evening turns into a competition for her affections. To this end, everyone tries to reinvent themselves as the person that they would most like to be, with comical and sometimes poignant results. This is a story about an evening with four young people who are on the edge of the unknown frontier that will be the rest of their lives - they're confused, earnest, passionate... and writing really bad poetry.
