About the Author
Dean Norman grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1956 with a B.A. in Political Science. Following this, he studied ecology at the University of Missouri and University of North Dakota from 1962 to 1965.Dean draws on canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping and cross-country skiing adventures for Wally's Woods story ideas. He lives in Cleveland, Ohio, with his wife, Maureen. A son, David, is an electronic repairman for the U.S. Post Office, and daughter, Susan is a river recreation manager for the U.S. Forest Service.

Dakota Goodhouse

Dakota Wind Goodhouse was born and raised on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in Fort Yates, North Dakota. His parents are Raymond D. Winters (Fighting Bear) and Emma C. Goodhouse (Small Woman). He was given his Lakota name as a young boy by his Grandfather, Innocent Goodhouse -- his name being "Ozuye-Numpa" or "Fights-Two Wars". Dakota graduated from Fort Yates Public School and started working for the Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation in May of 1995. In 1997 he researched and reproduced the "Four Bears" robe -- from the original which is currently in a museum in Hamburg, Germany. In 1998 he began historical interpretation at the Fort Lincoln State Park as an Indian scout for "the 7th Cavalry in the year 1875". At this writing he is a Junior at the University of Mary, double-majoring in Theology and Pastoral Ministry, and double-minoring in Religious Education and American History. In 2000 he took honorable mention in the United Tribes Annual Expo in traditional art. He currently lives in Bismarck with his new wife Casey, and two sons, Christian (6) and Isaiah (1). Interests are bike riding, reading (history, art, science fiction, fantasy), painting, beading and life.
