Hanging on the rim of known space, Pluma is the home of ancient forests, fathomless oceans, and alien life unchronicled by man. But Pluma is not the ideal world. A terrible plague ravages the planet, a disease as mysterious as is it unstoppable. Two-thirds of those who have been exposed to the plague have died. With all options depleted, the decision to evacuate the planet and commence its destruction seems the only choice. The refugees find themselves aboard the Perdido, a vessel that soon resembles a ship of the damned as over half of her crew succumbs to the disease. The Perdido's captain has been ordered to bombard Pluma with nano-technology designed to strip the planet's atmosphere, permitting the sun to irradiate all indigenous life. Every human inhabitant has been evacuated, with two exceptions. Only two humans remain on Pluma, Annabelle and Miki. One of them is a captive in the prison of her own body, the other an outcast daydreamer with ramshackle resolve. Together they must stop a plague, rescue a doomed people, and cure their world's pain - all before the ozone turns to mist and the sun devours them all.
